Parking at Max Patch

There is a small parking lot available at Max Patch below the bald. However, this lot fills up quickly (especially on weekends) so prepare to have a backup plan in case the lot is full.

There are also spots for parking along the road near the parking lot, but parking is prohibited in some areas so be sure to check for signs. Only park in designated areas.

Ignoring signs and parking on both sides of the road creates traffic jams and safety hazards for all visitors. The road is extremely narrow, and therefore can be difficult or impossible to pass at certain points if cars are parked incorrectly. Emergency vehicles must have a clear path at all times. Refusing to follow signs not only inconveniences all visitors by holding up traffic, but also endangers public safety. Please remember to only park in designated areas for the well-being of yourself and those around you.

The video above demonstrates the risks of ignoring signs and parking on both sides of the road at Max Patch. Jams can last for several minutes and keep people from leaving or entering Max Patch - including emergency vehicles. (Video courtesy of USFS)
